7 port USB card – 4
external, 1 internal + header for 2 internal USB ports

Features:

  • Need two internal USB ports? That
requires a header. This card provides you the internal 10 pin header
    for the two USB ports.
  • Sometimes your computer case has
USB ports that are 10 pin but your motherboard has 8 pin headers.
This PCI USB card with 10 pin internal header comes handy.
  • Maybe you just need as many USB
ports as you can lay your hands on. This 7 port PCI USB card
    provides you:

    • 4 External USB ports
    • 1 Internal USB port
    • 2 Internal USB ports via header on
      card

Offshore Outsourcing has been growing by leaps and bounds and portals like Odesk are growing very fast. However; you need to proceed with caution especially on Odesk as they don’t have a very good system in place for protecting clients. Their policies lean towards protecting and promoting the freelance contractor, quite often at the expense of the client/employer/outsourcer.

For example, if you need a programmer and hire one at Odesk, you should not be surprised if contractors underbid just to get your contract and as soon as they start working for you, they start demanding a raise. You have closed bidding, you have hired a contractor and you have spent a few days explaining the ins and outs of your system and just as real programming starts, the programmer starts asking for a raise. There is no rhyme or reason for him to ask for more money but he knows now he has you in a tough spot. If you don’t give him more money, he will start dragging his feet and what was supposed to be completed in three weeks end up taking three months. If you fire him, now you have to again advertize and go through scores of resumes and then pick one again. If you complain to Odesk, they say they have made a note of it but do nothing.

Now you can give him a negative rating and give an honest feedback that the guy is a blackmailer and explain the guys shenanigans but Odesk provides him a way out of that. If he returns the money you have paid him, he can have that rating wiped off his record. You get your money back but what about the three months lost? Too bad.

Odesk also provides him another alternative. Instead of returning your money, Odesk allows the contractor to make your comments on his job private. See below

pitfalls of outsourcing, dark side of odesk,

Notice where the contractor has gotten a five star rating, he is showing the comments but where he got the lowest possible feedback, he has the comments hidden. If you are not very experienced in outsourcing, you wouldn’t realize the severity of his misdeeds, you wouldn’t benefit from the feedback of his previous victims and you may conveniently become his next victim.

Buyer Beware – especially on Odesk.

How to tell which motherboard do I have?

Many a times you need to download the correct or updated drivers for your
computer. To do that, you need to know which motherboard you have. You can open
the computer and try to visually find the make and model of the motherboard.
That is quite inconvenient and at times it is an OEM motherboard that does not
have the make / model written on it.

So what do you do? Is there an easier way? How can I find out which
motherboard do I have?

Easy. Click on the ‘Start’ button at the bottom left of your screen. A dialog
box will appear. Type ‘Run’ and press enter. Another dialog box will appear.
Type ‘dxdiag’ in that. A screen will pop up that will have most of the system
information on it. Under System Manufacturer, you will see who made the
motherboard, for example ‘Intel’. Under that will be System Model. That shows
your motherboard, for example ‘D915GVWB’. In this case, your motherboard will be
Intel D915GVWB.

We have only tested this under Windows 7.

Hope that helped.

It is hard to find a new Pentium 4 socket 478 motherboard with ISA slots. On
top of that, if you need DMA support, your task has become even more difficult.
There are a few here and there. We found one and are listing it here.

pentium 4 motherboard, 3 isa slots,dma support,

If you are wondering what DMA is, the following text will help.

A DMA controller can generate addresses and initiate memory read or write
cycles. It contains several registers that can be written and read by the CPU.
These include a memory address register, a byte count register, and one or more
control registers. The control registers specify the I/O port to use, the
direction of the transfer (reading from the I/O device or writing to the I/O
device), the transfer unit (byte at a time or word at a time), and the number of
bytes to transfer in one burst.

To carry out an input, output or memory-to-memory operation, the host processor
initializes the DMA controller with a count of the number of words to transfer,
and the memory address to use. The CPU then sends commands to a peripheral
device to initiate transfer of data. The DMA controller then provides addresses
and read/write control lines to the system memory. Each time a word of data is
ready to be transferred between the peripheral device and memory, the DMA
controller increments its internal address register until the full block of data
is transferred.

DMA transfers can either occur one word at a time, allowing the CPU to access
memory on alternate bus cycles-this is called cycle stealing since the DMA
controller and CPU contend for memory access. In burst mode DMA, the CPU can be
put on hold while the DMA transfer occurs and a full block of possibly hundreds
or thousands of words can be moved. Where memory cycles are much faster than
processor cycles, an interleaved DMA cycle is possible, where the DMA controller
uses memory while the CPU cannot.

In a bus mastering system, both the CPU and peripherals can be granted
control of the memory bus. Where a peripheral can become bus master, it can
directly write to system memory without involvement of the CPU, providing memory
address and control signals as required. Some measure must be provided to put
the processor into a hold condition so that bus contention does not occur.
